About Us

About Us

We are an education technology business based in Ayrshire, in bonnie Scotland, and focus on literacy education together with language development, with a particular focus on reading ages 3-14.

We are called ‘Giglets’, meaning ‘giggling children’, a word used by the Scottish poet Robert (Rabbie) Burns, who also heralds from Ayrshire. After all, our mission is to get children to enjoy reading.

Our online learning resource for literacy education is called The Learning Cloud (TLC). TLC is a ground-breaking web-based service for schools around the globe. TLC brings together many different types and styles of texts, including some of the world’s most famous and most challenging stories, and re-imagines them as modern and animated educational experiences.

We are proud to be a multi-award winning company, committed to delivering world class, digital educational material for the development of reading and language development.

Bringing Stories to Life

Our pioneering digital content brings stories to life, with music, animations and illustrations. Moreover, The Learning Cloud takes these wonderful stories a step further by delivering cross-curricular educational resources, covering a range of levels for pupils aged 3-14.

Giglets Education has an important impact on learning in a fast growing number of schools across England, Wales and Scotland, as well as internationally from Australia to Qatar. We have partnered with governmental and non-governmental bodies in delivering our pioneering products in Primary, Secondary, Special and Language Medium schools.

Our History

Giglets Education was founded by Craig Johnstone and Dr Karsten Karcher. Long before Giglets, they met in 2007 through the Strathclyde Entrepreneurial Network at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow when Craig was in his first year studying International Business and Marketing and Karsten was an Enterprise Partner and Strathclyde PhD Alumnus. Craig and Karsten were joined by Jax, and later Graeme and all other team members. The first full version of The Learning Cloud was launched in early 2015, and has grown into the advanced literacy platform that you know today.
