What is TLC?

The Learning Cloud (TLC) is an innovative web-based solution for schools, by Giglets Education, for Literacy Development, Reading Skills, and Language Learning.

TLC is designed with teachers/educators, pupils/students and parents in mind.

A library of enhanced animated ebooks, supported by cross-curricula learning resources, provide the bedrock for a personalised and powerful learning experience.

What ages does TLC cover?

TLC focuses on reading ages 3-14+ in formal education at schools, yet can also be used at any age, especially in terms of Language Learning.

TLC teaching resources are formally aligned with the teaching curriculums for Primary School / Elementary School Levels, including Nursery School Levels, and early Secondary School / Middle School levels.

Who uses TLC?

The Learning Cloud is used by schools in England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Switzerland, the Middle East and Australia, with more in the pipeline. We work with public and private schools, teaching clusters, local authorities and governments.

TLC is embraced by educators looking for a way to engage and inspire a new generation of readers, writers and listeners, whilst ensuring their colleagues are supported in the delivery and development of their respective curriculum.

Our offering is currently aligned with the following teaching curriculums:

National Curriculum (NC) in England;

Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) in Scotland;

Literacy and Numeracy Framework (LNF) in Wales;

International Baccalaureate (IB), globally.

If you are interested in TLC for any curriculum framework not listed above, then please do get in touch. We are actively looking for partners in new markets and always keen to explore how we can add value to your learning and teaching frameworks.

What training and support is available?

Customer training and support is core to our offering. All of our customers have access to the following as standard:

We know how busy your school day can be, and thus we can arrange for this at a time of your choosing. Early mornings, evenings and weekends are not a problem for our dedicated team.

• Online FAQs and Video Tutorials: These can be found within TLC, and these are a great way to get to grips with TLC at time that works for you.

We release hundreds of new educational resources and ebooks each year. Within the product area covered by your TLC licence, these additions and updates are even included at no cost to you.

We also love to hear from you about suggestions for new content, and we are looking for schools to pilot new material.

Within your TLC account, we will announce new content, such as under ‘New Books’.

The brilliant news is you get all of our updates automatically. That is the beauty of a web-based product.

What devices does my school need?

TLC is a device and browser agnostic platform. Most modern PCs, tablets, laptops and notebooks will be able to access The Learning Cloud. Mobile devices can access it too but we’d always recommend tablet usage for the best learning and teaching experience.

When using tablets, a 10” or higher Apple iPad is best, though both IOS and Android are supported as tablet and mobile operating systems.

What network and technical infrastructure does my school need?

TLC access requires an Internet browser with JavaScript enabled. Ideally always use the latest browser version. For best results use Google Chrome, though other browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer and Apple Safari are supported too.

For advanced users only:

TLC requires access on port 80 and port 443 to: www.giglets.netteacher.gigletsedu.comadmin.gigletsedu.com, and pupil.gigletsedu.com.

These are hosted inside the following IP number range: (primary) and (backup).

The software does not require plugins besides the ability for the web browser to remotely load fonts and execute JavaScript from the same origin.

What about Home Access?

Absolutely, we know your pupils love to learn on the move and sometime you’ll want to catch up on some planning on the commute home. Pupils and teachers have access to The Learning Cloud from home or anywhere that they have internet connectivity.

Careful though, the stories are really good, you don’t want to miss your stop on the bus!

Is TLC secure?

TLC uses modern security features, and the security of our members is paramount. We comply with the UK and European Data Protection Laws. TLC contains minimal pupil information and we have a dedicated support team ready to deal with any server issues. Data is also continuously backed-up.

If any breach was ever to take place, we would let you know as soon as possible and work with you to put any problems right.
